Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences – Krefeld Campus – Dinosaurs escaped the SCREW LOOSE Toolbox – September to November 2024

From September 30 to November 21, 2024, the SCREW LOOSE, SHORT FUSE toolbox was on display at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences – more precisely, in the library at the Krefeld campus. During these seven weeks, the library became not only a place for reading and learning, but also a space for wonder, discussion, and questioning. And it was a hit: over 15,000 visitors took advantage of the offer – an increase of around 30 percent compared to the usual visitor numbers.

The SCREW LOOSE exhibition invited visitors to turn familiar patterns of thinking upside down and playfully deconstruct technology and society: from the ladder of higher-faster-further to the beard of patriarchy to the straitjacket of nature. The students, the library team, and external guests took up the questions and ideas, symbolically (and in some cases literally) taking tools with them to their seminars, discussions, or homes. The whole event was accompanied by short guided tours and spontaneous discussions between bookshelves and reading chairs. In this way, the university library in Krefeld became a place where knowledge is not only preserved, but also the courage to question is cultivated.
